Family Day: How to Become a Pirate

When Europeans first traveled to Texas, pirates were soon to follow. Real-life pirates like Jean Lafitte and Louis Michel Aury not only smuggled and plundered their way through the Gulf of Mexico, but also acted as privateers during the country’s earliest of wars. These men were truly fascinating sailors that are still exciting and inspiring to this day! Families are invited to learn some of the ins and outs of swashbuckling by constructing rubber band cannons, etching unique pirate flags, and creating personalized eye patches! Costumes are encouraged!

Family Day: Battleship Anniversary

The year is 1967. The Beatles sing “All You Need Is Love,” Gilligan is still stuck on an island, and Milton Bradley releases Battleship. In the days to follow, the band separates, the show is canceled, but the board game continues to grow. In 2017, Battleship is still a staple of family room closets and celebrating its 50th anniversary! Families are invited to celebrate by competing in a friendly Battleship contest, stepping back in time to play Atari’s 1980 classic Battlezone on the large flat screen, and participating in the debut of HMM’s original game LORE!
