Industry Lecture: Maritime & Offshore Nuclear Power
Can Nuclear Power Transform the Maritime Industry with Peter Wallace
The effort to decarbonize has catalyzed an interest in nuclear power for offshore and maritime systems. This initially started with the idea of drop-in replacement and has grown to be seen as a way to restructure parts of the offshore and maritime industries including offshore facilities and ships in new ways.
Advantages include near zero carbon emissions, refueling measured in 5-30+ year intervals. Other advantages such as access to process heat or high performance load following characteristics that can outperform diesels multiply the opportunities for nuclear power in the marine setting.
Today’s challenges include access to available technologies and varying degrees of readiness from operators and their partners.
Peter Wallace of Lloyd’s Register’s Risk and Regulatory Advisory for Maritime will discuss their recent Fuel for Thought: Nuclear report and much more on this highly technical yet promising future fuel!
The lecture will be followed by a reception sponsored by Lloyd’s Register.
