Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of 2024, I’d like to share the great news and accomplishments Houston Maritime Center & Museum (HMC&M) has achieved so far. As many of you know, we are engaged in building a wonderful new museum in Eado (East of Downtown) for all to enjoy. Its location on Buffalo Bayou allows easy access and a fitting placement close to the Allen Brothers’ original landing.

We respectfully ask you to consider a year-end gift to HMC&M’s Annual Fund for vital operating funds to support our efforts to bring you a world-class maritime museum experience. Here are some HMC&M highlights, while “in drydock” from 2024:

  • We have begun construction with Tellepsen on an exciting new museum gallery. This space will bring history and the future alive, and we can’t wait to share it with you in early summer, 2025. Thanks to generous gifts from Houston Endowment, The Wortham Foundation, The Elkins Foundation, The Hamman Foundation and many friends of HMC&M, we are over halfway to our $1.5M capital campaign goal! Stay tuned for further updates next spring.
  • HMC&M hosted 8 lectures with topics ranging from the future of clean energy in shipping, to Hurricane Season, to Battleship Texas updates; and a screening of Finding the Virgo at The Hobby Center: a moving documentary about South Vietnamese refugees and the US Merchant Marines who saved them. Our outreach is specifically designed to engage a wide audience of demographics and maritime interests.
  • HMC&M’s popular Family Days begin again January 25 with the theme of “Safety On the Water” in conjunction with the Coast Guard and other sponsors. These community outreach events are open to all on Saturdays throughout the year.

Ever since the Allen Brothers’ historic landing, these waterways have been our lifeblood. Houston’s #1 Port in America contributes almost $1 trillion dollars per year to the US economy and over 18% to the State of Texas GDP. Texas deserves a modern Maritime Museum the world can enjoy: a place to tell this amazing story of pioneering spirit, then and now.

We are so grateful to our many supporters and friends for helping us make this dream a reality. Please consider your year-end gift to Houston Maritime Center & Museum’s Annual Fund. Let’s keep the story of the pioneering Texas spirit alive for generations to come.

Wishing you the happiest of holidays and smooth sailing in 2025,
